Mented Cosmetics has announced the  company has raised $3 MIllion in funding. The multicultural makeup brand was founded in January 2017 by KJ Miller and Amanda Johnson.

The company’s latest funding round was led by investor Circle Up Growth Partners, Forbes reports. CircleUp focuses on early-stage consumer brands and has a history of investing in female-led companies.

Miller and Johnson say they wanted to create a high-end organic beauty company that didn’t overlook African-American women. Mented launched with a collection of nude lipsticks designed to match a range of deep skin tones.

The African-American cofounders are both in their early thirties, according to the article in Forbes, and pitched to more than 80 venture capitalists (which had all invested in women-owned businesses in the past) before scoring $1 million in funding last October.

Mented features a wide range of nude colors in lipstick, lip gloss, eye shadow — and more.
